Nose Jewelry Backing Styles

L Shape

Shaped like an L, as the name implies. It's inserted into the nose piercing at a 90-degree angle, and the bent end of the jewelry sits along the wall of the nasal passage, keeping the jewelry in place. This style is easy to insert, one of the most popular backing styles, and very secure.

Corkscrew

Also referred to as "J hook, S curve or twist." It's inserted into the piercing by twisting it into the hole. The twist of the prong makes it very difficult to fall out. This backing style is the most secure of the 4 mentioned.

Ball Tip (Bone)

Also referred to as "bone". Simply a straight prong with a wider end to keep in the jewelry. This prong is shorter and less likely to be seen in the nose. It can be easy to fall out of your nose if it catches on your clothing when changing or when sleeping.

Straight

Basically like an earring stem. This style just slides straight in and out. Has no security. Common for people with freshly pierced noses to use because the other styles may be slightly uncomfortable to insert. Even though this style is the easiest to insert it is also the easiest to lose.
